And we are off,,,,,

      After doing our kitchen renovation this Spring, I didn't think we would be doing a trip this year.  But Mr Riggins had other plans.  We are heading out on another road trip, just not as far or long as last years trip. I wasn't going to write a blog, but it is something that I really like to do, and it helps our family and friends (you know who you are) follow along our our adventures.  The biggest issue with blogging on a road trip, is finding good wifi.  Most campgrounds offer "free wifi".  But it is getting connected that is the problem and if you can get connected, it is painfully slow.  At times, impossible to download photos. So as in the past blogs, I won't be posting everyday.

     On this particular trip I want to go back to Deadwood South Dakota and tour around the Black Hills area, more specifically to visit a unique little store in the town of Deadwood.   Ray doesn't care about the store, but I sure do!  The name of the store is "Beer & Bling".   They sell everything "bling" in there.  The "Beer" part of the name is because a bar (complete with stools) is set up in the store so the men can have a beer while the ladies shop.  And this little lady is gonna buy me some bling!

     All that aside, there are a few things we want to do before we get to Deadwood.  Firstly we will be stopping in Kamloops for a few nights to celebrate little Keaton's 3rd birthday.  Then we will head over to Christina Lake and enter into Washington from there.  We will work our way over to Montana and perhaps stop at Custers Last Stand.  The plan at the moment is when we get to Deadwood, we are  going to camp for a few days and do day trips to Devils Tower,  the Jewel Caves and whatever interests us at the time.  Although I am not sure that I will want to go into the caves.  Not enough oxygen for me.  From South Dakota we are heading into Utah, Arizona, Nevada and then over to California.  All plans are up for change and that is why we do not pre-book any campsites.  This has always worked for us in the past. so our fingers are crossed that it will work again.

Was it truly the Fountain of Youth?

    Well good morning to you all!  We are on the road early as we are going to make it to “California or Bust” today.  Which will be roughly a 5 - 6 hour drive.  Yes we have increased our hours spent on the road, just to get to some lower elevations.  But before I write about that, let me take you from Sturgis to Thermopolis Wyoming.      Leaving behind the lush greens of the Black Hills of South Dakota, it almost seemed  that we were back in southern Montana.  Wyoming is very similar with its rolling hills of grass for miles.  Far off in the west we could see some mountains, but it is like that in South Dakota also, but these mountains were more rocky in appearance then the ones covered in trees.  I thought it was the Rocky Mountain Range that I was seeing, but a quick check on the map told me that we would be going through the Big Horn Mountain range.  Taking highway 16 from Buffalo we had the most amazing drive y...

Family time in Kamloops

         We have just spent the first four days of this journey in Kamloops.  We camped at the only site available in the immediate vicinity of the city.  Due to conferences etc,,,,everywhere was booked solid.  Kamloops boosts being the “Tournament Capital” of BC, and they do have many golf courses and beautiful sports parks and recreation centers.  There is always some sort of tournament or conference going on.  What they do lack is good RV campgrounds.  There are some forestry (Paul Lake) or Provincial (Lache La Juene) camping areas in the area, but we want to be fairly close to town just to save on driving time to Tanya and Dean’s.  Okay and truth be known,,,,,we want all the hookups that we can get.  Water, electric, sewer, wifi and whatever else we can get.  Some of you might be thinking,, “why don’t they just stay in hotels”.  That is okay, I sometimes think the same thing.  But we like having ou...

Sturgis and Deadwood

         Okay, here is the story for today.  Last night we were hanging around the trailer keeping out of the rain, when Ray asks me if I thought the RV park office sells things.  I said “yeah, things like t-shirts and maybe some RV things, why”.  He asked if I thought they might sell little notebooks.  Well when we arrived and I took my inventory of the store, I couldn’t honestly say “yay or nay.”  I asked him what he needed a note book for and he said “I would like to keep track of what towns we stop in, what RV parks and what highways we take”  At the time I was working on my Montana blog, so I pointed at the laptop and asked “you mean you want to keep a blog,,,,like this (pointing at the screen),,,,,, like our blog that I am working on?”  He said “yeah”.  I told him that I do try to capture that kind of stuff in our blog, but if you want to keep your own, then would you like one with or without lines?
